About Defense Contracts
Many of the biggest counter-drone awards are ceilings, not orders. The Army has named ten companies for counter-drone contracts with ceilings worth $4.15 billion between them. A Pentagon task force official told DefenseScoop that $50 million had been committed across all ten.
Homeland Security's $1.5 billion counter-drone contract placed its first orders in late September: three task orders to Dedrone Defense worth $6.8 million, federal spending records show.
Some awards buy hardware outright. The Army awarded AeroVironment $464.8 million on 2 September to build LOCUST X3 laser weapons, which both describe as the first production contract for a high-energy laser in American history. The Navy will buy 30 medium uncrewed ships from three builders at an average of $40 million each.
Exports are growing. Raytheon said on 13 October that it had been awarded $729 million to supply parts of the Army's main counter-drone system to the Army, Qatar and Jordan, its first international sales of the KuRFS radar and Coyote interceptor. Kuwait is buying a £370 million counter-drone system from MARSS, the UK Ministry of Defence said on 9 October, subject to three conditions.
