AEVEX Aerospace

AEVEX Aerospace is a US defense company built around airborne intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance as an end-to-end service. Rather than selling a single platform, it covers the chain around the mission: aircraft modification and special-mission engineering, flight operations, sensor integration, and the processing, exploitation and dissemination of the data those sensors collect. Its customers are US national security agencies and allied governments.

The company was assembled largely through acquisition, consolidating a set of specialist ISR and aviation-services businesses under one contractor. That pattern continued in August 2026 with the acquisition of BlackSea Technologies, a maritime autonomy company, extending AEVEX beyond airborne ISR into uncrewed surface vessels.

Business Position

AEVEX is privately held and does not publish results. Third-party estimates put trailing twelve-month revenue near $700 million, which places it well above the startup tier but far below the primes.

Why It Matters

AEVEX occupies a part of the market that gets little attention: the operator and integrator layer between platform manufacturers and the end customer. As drone and ISR programmes multiply, the constraint is increasingly not building the aircraft but flying it, integrating the sensors, and turning the take into usable intelligence. That is the work AEVEX sells.

The BlackSea acquisition is worth watching. Maritime autonomy is a different engineering and operating problem from airborne ISR, and whether AEVEX can run both under one roof will show whether the roll-up model extends across domains or only within one.
